At Pro-Choice Minnesota, we believe everyone deserves access to accurate information and compassionate care. If you are seeking abortion or other reproductive healthcare in Minnesota, you have rights—and we're here to help you understand and exercise them.
Your Rights in Minnesota
Abortion is legal in Minnesota.
Minnesota state law protects your right to access abortion care. As of 2024, there are no mandatory waiting periods, no parental notification requirements, and no mandated counseling scripts. You are free to make decisions about your pregnancy with your healthcare provider—without government interference.
You have the right to access care without harassment.
You have the right to enter and exit a clinic safely and with dignity. Protesters are not allowed to threaten, harass, or block your path. Many clinics work with trained volunteer escorts to support patients and help create a safe environment.
You can access abortion at various stages of pregnancy.
Abortion is legal throughout pregnancy in Minnesota. After a certain point in gestation, procedures may be more limited based on medical necessity and provider availability—but your right to care remains protected.
You have the right to make private medical decisions.
Minnesota law supports medical privacy. Your health decisions—including those about abortion—are between you and your provider. You do not have to disclose your decision to anyone else if you choose not to.
Be Aware: Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs)
Not all clinics provide comprehensive or unbiased reproductive healthcare. Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) often use deceptive practices to appear like real medical clinics—but they typically do not provide abortions or full-options counseling. Many are unlicensed and may share false or misleading information to dissuade you from seeking abortion care.
Tip: If you're unsure whether a clinic is legitimate, contact us or ask a trusted provider for help.
