Seeking a Grassroots Organizer

Organization:

The mission of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota--a grassroots 501(c)(4) lobbying organization--is to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.

 

The NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible non-profit organization. The Foundation's mission is to support and protect, as a fundamental right and value, a woman's freedom to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices through education, training, organizing, legal action, and public policy.  Our educational programs work in the areas of student organizing, research, public education, and leadership development to promote reproductive policies that give women real choices in their lives.

 

Position:

The Grassroots Organizer will oversee the volunteer program, the student organizing program, and greater Minnesota organizing program of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, as well as assist in political and electoral organizing efforts.

 

Responsibilities Include:

t                   Recruit, hire, motivate and supervise volunteers needed to support and implement NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota’s grassroots programs including coordination of monthly volunteer nights and in-office day volunteers (often with assistance of the Office Manager);

t                   Coordinate the Student Organizing Program including the recruitment, hiring and supervision of Campus Representatives, including campus site visits, training opportunities, and regular communication with interns;

t                   Assist NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota’s political and electoral organizing efforts in coordination with Political Director, including GOTV/election/campaign work;

t                   Manage the maintenance and growth of the greater Minnesota Choice Lobby Network;

t                   Oversee outreach efforts throughout the state;

t                   Supervise interns and work study students, including Student Organizing and Summer Outreach Interns; and

t                   Administrative work- financial and database management.

 

Ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills:

t                   Commitment to and enthusiasm for reproductive choice;

t                   Strong written and verbal communication skills;

t                   Ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds, including volunteers, youth, and collaborative organizations;

t                   Previous grassroots organizing and public policy experience;

t                   Experience recruiting and managing volunteers;

t                   Proficiency in on-line organizing, website development, and database maintenance;

t                   Demonstrated success at keeping multiple projects organized; and

t                   Experience working in political campaigns and/or non-profit organizations.

 

Candidate must be willing to take on a wide range of tasks and to work flexible hours.  Travel and evening and weekend work is required.

 

Candidates should have previous organizing experience. Excellent writing, computer and interpersonal skills required.  Experience with women’s reproductive health issues a strong plus. Generous benefit package includes paid vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance. Salary range is mid- to upper 20’s.
