Reproductive Health Bill Hijacked
Update: Thanks to your actions, the Senate voted to reject the amendments. The final bill will now be determined in a joint House-Senate conference committee. On May 15th, two dangerous provisions were added on to a bill to allow registered nurses to dispense oral contraception at family planning clinics. The bill has been supported by NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota and other partners as a common-sense pregnancy prevention initiative. Unfortunately, anti-choice leaders have hijacked the bill and we need you to call your state senator today to restore it to the original language. A vote on the Senate floor is imminent. Anti-choice lawmakers inserted several restrictions, including an unconstitutional attack on poor women’s access to safe and legal abortion and an intrusion into the constitutional privacy of adolescents’ healthcare. Please call your senator right away and tell them to reject the House amended version of Senate File 184. Tell them to reject it because the House approved two dangerous and potentially unconstitutional amendments designed to limit reproductive health access. Sentors must vote to reject the House amended version and instead vote for a conference committee with the original senate bill. Find your legislator's contact info here.
