Oppose the Abortion Regulation Act
The top priority of the MCCL (Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life) this legislative session has been the onerous "Abortion Regulation Act," a sweeping package of legislation that will severely undermine reproductive freedom for the women of Minnesota. On April 27, the State House passed the "Abortion Regulation Act" by a final vote of 81-50. The "Abortion Regulation Act" is a three-pronged attack to reproductive rights: 1. It attacks the State Supreme Court decision Doe v. Gomez. The Gomez decision is extremely significant because it interprets our State Constitution to protect reproductive privacy, and it protects access to reproductive health care for low-income women. If Roe v. Wade should fall, the Gomez decision will protect reproductive freedom for Minnesota women. In short: we can't afford to lose Gomez. 2. It targets judges who grant judicial bypasses to young women seeking abortions. 3. It singles out doctors who provide abortion care for burdensome regulations. The "Abortion Regulation Act" has been moving quickly this week. The State Senate is considering amending their supplemental spending bill with the "Abortion Regulation Act." It is critical that we stop this bill from advancing in the Senate. ACTION NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota needs you to do two things.
1. Call your state senator NOW and tell them to oppose the Abortion Regulation Act at every step of the way. Find your state senator and their contact info HERE. 2. Rally at the Capitol with NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota and our allies on Monday May 15. We will fill the Senate gallery in protest of the impending Senate vote on this assault to our rights. Shifts are available on Monday May 15 from 10am-1pm; 1-4pm; and 4-7pm. Please wear black as we mourn the loss of our rights. Email volunteer@prochoiceminnesota.org with questions or to RSVP.
