Pass the Contraceptive Equity Act
Thank you for taking action on this bill. Unfortunately, the bill did not meet the committee hearing deadline and will not be considered this year. Please contact your legislators and ask them what they will do to ensure its passage next year. Women deserve equal treatment for health needs such as contraception. Without legislation, too many health insurance plans and employers will continue to treat women's health needs in a second-class manner, excluding contraceptives from insurance coverage. Women pay more out-of-pocket for their health needs than men do, in large measure due to the exclusion of contraceptives from so many plans. Moreover, improving access to contraception is the best way to reduce unintended pregnancy and thus the need for abortion. The Contraceptive Equity Act (H.F.322/S.F.270) would require private health insurance companies that cover prescription drugs to cover contraceptives equally. WHAT YOU CAN DO Urge your legislators to support this sensible legislation. Tell them to vote for the Contraceptive Equity Act (H.F.322 in the House and S.F.270 in the Senate). >> Find out how to contact your legislators here. >> Find out your legislative district here.
