Minneapolis School Health Clinics Threatened
If you are a resident of Minneapolis, please take action on this important issue! The city council and mayor of Minneapolis are currently seeking input on "Draft Goals for the City." One provision in the current draft states that while the City will "provide leadership, along with partners, in maintaining healthy communities throughout the City, [it] will not provide direct health and social services." If adopted, this could mean that the city would no longer operate the six school-based clinics in Minneapolis public schools. These clinics serve over 10,000 visits each year to a high risk, underserved population. Services include sports physicals, contraceptive counseling, STI testing, mental health counseling, and immunizations. Please stay tuned for further developments and possible actions.
