NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota launches Prevention First Campaign: Minnesota candidates support pregnancy prevention policies
For Immediate Release: 3/6/06 St. Paul, MN—NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota on Monday announced that more than 20 candidates for elected office of all levels stand behind pregnancy prevention policies that expand options for women, and reduce the need for abortion. “Regardless of an individual’s stance on abortion, we ought to be able to find common ground on policies that help to reduce the rates of unintended pregnancy, such as fully funding family planning programs and ensuring that young people get honest, realistic sex education,” stated Robynne Curlee, Executive Director of Programs and Public Affairs at NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota. “These candidates know that the surest way to reduce rates of abortion is to help women prevent pregnancy. The most effective way to do that is to make sure that women know about and have access to low-cost birth control.” Candidates were asked to sign a Prevention First pledge to support pregnancy prevention policies. Some candidates declined to sign a pledge but offered a statement of support for the Prevention First campaign.
