NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Election Fund Endorses Chris Coleman in St. Paul Mayoral Race

Posted: 10/05/2005

Coleman faces anti-choice incumbent in Randy Kelly

St. Paul, MN - The NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Election Fund has endorsed Chris Coleman in the St. Paul race for mayor. Noting that choice is likely to be a key issue in the campaign, executive director Tim Stanley stated “Pro-choice voters in St. Paul have an ally in Chris Coleman. He has consistently supported the personal freedom of a woman’s right to choose, whereas Randy Kelly has used the machinery of city government to restrict women’s personal freedom”.

“It is vital that the city of St. Paul have a pro-choice mayor,” continued Stanley. “Local governments make decisions related to reproductive health care such as whether or not city workers health care plans cover birth control and other reproductive health services.”

He also cited a recent example where the office of Mayor Kelly issued a permit to anti-choice protesters directly in front of an abortion clinic in the same space where a permit had already been granted to the clinic for its patients, patient escorts, and pro-choice supporters. “The City of Saint Paul needs pro-choice leadership for this very reason, both in the interest of fairness but most importantly to protect the safety and the freedom of women accessing reproductive health services.”
