Senate Committee Approves Truth in Medicine Act
Statement from Tim Stanley regarding proposed requirement for information to be medically and factually accurateSaint Paul, Minnesota— The Minnesota Senate Health and Family Security Committee approved the Truth in Medicine Act, SF 2570, a measure requiring the state to provide scientifically accurate information on official materials mandated by the so-called “Women’s Right to Know Act” passed in 2003, in addition to eliminating the language that falsely links abortion and breast cancer in such materials. Tim Stanley, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, gave the following statement in response to the committee vote: “The Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life intentionally injected confusion into an issue that deserves absolute clarity; there is no causal link between abortion and breast cancer. To say otherwise is reckless, irresponsible and a disservice to the women of Minnesota. “From our state Health Department, we should demand no less than the most recent and accurate medical facts.” NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota is an affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America and is the largest grassroots pro-choice group in Minnesota.
