In Memory of Senator Paul Wellstone
Statement of NARAL President Kate Michelman Washington, DC-- "The entire NARAL family is devastated and saddened by the sudden and tragic death of our good friend Senator Paul Wellstone, his wife Sheila, and daughter Marcia. I wish to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Senator's sons and Wellstone family. Our thoughts are also with the families of the three staff members and two pilots aboard the plane. "Senator Wellstone was a courageous public advocate for those who had no voice. He never wavered from his commitment to enhance the lives of others. "To say Senator Paul Wellstone served in the United States Senate as a champion of women's rights does not do justice in capturing the true depth and breadth of his commitment to not only his constituents in Minnesota, but the lives of women throughout the country. "The Senator embodied a combination of integrity and steadfastness of principle that is all too rare in today's political arena. He will be sadly missed." ###
